I would recommend the recent book The Message in the Music (published by Abingdon). This fascinating study seeks to give a balanced assessment of both the text and music of contemporary worship music by studying the 77 most commonly used songs in American churches, as reported by CCLI. Different essays in the book deal with the texts of the songs from different angles (Trinitarian language, romantic, imagery, etc.), while other chapters evaluate the music itself.

John Witvliet of the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship has an excellent concluding chapter where he makes suggestions for songwriters and for those who choose songs for worship.

Ah, leave it to Blue Bass to read the fine print. After looking for a way around this, you're right. The temptation to continue using after the trial period is almost irresistible, since Reaper says that although the evaluation period is 30 days, "it will remain fully functional indefinitely." They go on to say that "Every day you use REAPER without having purchased it you will reminded, and will have to contemplate purchasing for 6 seconds."

For something they don't want users to do, they sure don't make it hard not to. Couldn't they make easily stop working after the trial period? Or limit it with something really annoying? From the looks of things, they don't seem to really care if you keep on using it.

But at the end of the day, you are right (though I think more by the letter of the law than by the spirit).

Thankfully REAPER gives a huge discount to people using it for non-commercial purposes, $50 instead of $225.

Where did you find it for free? It looks to me like you can evaluate for free, but then you need to purchase a license. "REAPER is provided with full functionality, and will not expire after any period of time. We trust that you, the user, will obey the license agreement and purchase a license if use continues." Did I miss something?
